Just some catching up

I'm really sorry that it's been so long. Then again, I haven't even thought about this blog in about a month so you know... I haven't really been on the internet all that much because finals are next week and I keep think "Fuck this... I'm gonna quit school to become the next millionaire like half of the huge guys out there" but then I think "what if that doesn't work?" And then I think "MAYBE I SHOULD WRITE A BOOK" and then I remember that any book I write, while better than Twilight, would probably never get that big, so I decide not to. I've also been doing a ton of reading, working out, eating ice cream (delicious) and other such things. I've been doing homework, going to class, all that college like stuff. Plus, I'm in Gryffindor on Pottermore! If you guys want to add me, My name is DragonLeviosa14152. Hit me up. Duel me. Whatever.
I've also been watching "Doctor Who" in the wee hours of the night when the internet doesn't suck because normal people are asleep. If you guys want to comment and let me know who your favorite doctors or companions are, let me know. My personal favorite is Matt Smith and the Ponds. If we're including all of them, it's probably Davison and Sarah Jane Smith.
I've also started to watch Sherlock. I've finished season 1, and all I know is that I love Benedict Cumberbatch. He's just so wonderful. If he gets cast as the Master (officially) then I will probably scream with delight.
So... I've been listening to a ton of Florence and the Machine lately. It's just so great that I love listening to it on repeat. I've also been watching the Vampire Diaries (Go Delena!) and Ian Somerhalder makes my life. Oh, I told you guys about my tattoo, right? I think I did. I'm pretty sure that I did. I'm sorry, I'm just rambling on and on while I think of what I want to start talking about next.
Oh, so I've been on Tumblr, and you're more than welcome to follow me (Nerdlydevon.tumblr.com or just nerdlydevon.) I post stuff from Legend of Zelda, Legend of Korra, Avatar:The Last Airbender, Castle, Firefly, Lord of the Rings, you know. The usual stuff that gets posted on Tumblr. I post picture of cute animals, funny quotes, cool scenery, and pretty much whatever I feel like posting at the time.
I also feel like grabbing food, because I'm hungry. I think I'm gonna grab my friend, but first, I'll leave you with some music!

sorry bout that

Sorry it's been so long, I just haven't been in the best mood lately. Considering I spent the other night crying over something stupid and trivial (no, I won't go into further detail), I really haven't been in the mood to post. Anyways, here's some music for you, and maybe I'll let you know the rest later.

holy f**k

I'm freaking out about the season finale of White Collar. I can't wait for the fourth season to come out, and it's actually driving me crazy. I'm so in love with Neal and Peter, and if you don't watch the show... hop on that ASAP. I'm not going to go into detail, just because I don't even know what the hell just happened. I do know some spoilers for season 4, but I'll wait until I know more to spill them.
I'm also incredibly excited for the mid-season premier of Psych tomorrow, which I've been waiting for since the mid-season finale back in November. I don't know too much about this one, only that we got left with a HUGE spoiler from Shawn buying the... oh never mind. I can't tell you.

Also, no new music for today, but I'll give you some tomorrow!

So Yesterday

I've been spending most of my time these days rocking out to Hilary Duff, and feeling like I'm 10 years old again. Ah, those were the days. I've also been watching Doctor Who, and other british television shows because I can't wait for the new Castle to come on tonight. AHHHHH *swoon*

2 Days Later...

Sorry that I've been AWOL these past two days, but it's because I've been on tumblr, like a crazy person. I've been googling stuff on the Doctor (and comparing Tennant and Smith... I'm still partial to Eleven), and Legend of Zelda (you know, like seeing who else was stupid enough to get something from the games tattoo'ed. I'm totally kidding. I love my tattoo), and other nerdly things, like Pokemon. So I just wanted to get back on here. If you guys want to follow me on Tumblr, you're more than welcome to. it's nerdlydevon.tumblr.com

I just want to

Run my fingers through Jack Barakat's hair. It's so sexy, but then again so is he. Now, someone out there is probably like "who the fuck is jack barakat?" and all I have to say about that is he's the guitarist for all time low. Now, there are things I want from his fingers, and it's not to hear him play the guitar. In fact, it's incredibly inappropriate, but since this blog is appropriate for work, I'm not going to write it. I'll just keep it to myself, and maybe all time low will play at Bamboozle this year, and I can meet him and (here's hoping) get with him. But that's just wishful thinking, because he's so beautiful, he'll probably get with someone hotter than I am.

Sorry about my all time low kick, but I'm so in love with them. I'm actually thinking about (maybe) getting a tattoo with "if we stand for nothing, we'll fall for anything." because of two reasons:1)it's so true, and inspirational and 2)I dig them. SO MUCH.

3 days later

I know that I've been slacking, but I've been all over the place these past couple of days, doing homework, trying not to scratch my tattoo, and listening to new music. I've also started to look for songs to put onto the March playlist. I'm going so hard with this one. You can thank all the radio shows I've been listening to. You should try listening to college radio shows. I've been listening to my friends show, called "Word Play" that airs every Sunday at 10. Plus, my baby brothers show "Lazy Sunday" which is broadcast from St.Michael's College in Vermont at noon. Then there's "Celtic Fire", which is also on Sundays, and it's actually airing right now, from Black Squirrel Radio. If any of you are from out of the country, you should take a picture with a famous landmark with a cutout of Earl the Squirrel, whose picture you can find on the Black Squirrel Radio site (http://www.blacksquirrelradio.com/) and send it in! The station is trying to have a whole "Take Over the World" thing. I think it's pretty cool, but you know.

For my music today, I'm going for the whole out of country kind of feel, so there aren't going to be any songs in English. Sorry.

tattoos hurt

Yes, I'm quite aware that it's 5 in the morning, but I got a tattoo yesterday, and HOLY FUCK DID IT HURT. I got it on my right side on my ribs, and I actually wanted to cry. BUT I DIDN'T. I know that the capitalization might be annoying, but that's the only way to put emphasis on it. I got the triforce I showed a few months back. Besides, the only reason I'm even up is because I rolled onto it in my sleep. I'm so sorry I skipped a day, but it hurts so much right now.

how could you expect anything less

I've been listening to Every Avenue on repeat for the past 24 hours, with some We Are The In Crowd mixed in, but you know how it goes. I love that pre-show jittery feeling, even when you're only going to watch. I love concerts so much. In case you actually took the time to read my bio, they're so much fun. Plus, this is my first concert of the year, but I'll be going to bamboozle. I might just kidnap my sister and bring her with me. I'll also be going with my two best friends back home, that I love and miss so much. I can't wait for spring break to go home and see everyone!

Fuck Valentine's Day. Now, onto my usual anti-v day spiel. While people think I hate the holiday because I'm single, that's not why. I like being single because it means not having to answer to anyone, not having to remember dates, not having to worry about some of the stuff I say, and being able to hook up as I please. I dislike the holiday because you should love who you're with all the time, 365 days a year, or this year, 366. I mean, it's not that difficult a concept! Besides, there have been 14 different St. Valentines, and he's the patron saint epilepsy, bee keeping, and fainting prevention as well as couples. One of the St. Valentines was also famous for persecution of the Jews... Why do we pick the stupidest people to have holidays for?

Whaaat?

Day 3 of continuous posting, let's go! I learned today that my spring break perfectly coincides with St. Patrick's day, and I'm so pumped to be able to go home for it. Everyone wants to go away from the break, but all I want to do it go home for it. I miss New York while I'm out here in Ohio. I'm also pretty pumped because I won concert tickets to go see Every Avenue and We Are The In Crowd tomorrow night, and I'll be taking one of my friends out here with me. I've been doing plenty of reading and studying this semester, and I finally got my sleep schedule in check yesterday, where I slept all day, and then all night. No, I'm not sick or anything, but I got it back! I'll probably fuck it up again soon, but until then, it's whatever.
I've also learned that writing a book is a lot harder than it looks, because I can never get points to connect the way I want them to. I've been working on the same story, but I don't know how I want to introduce the death of her father and the introduction of her best friend. I've also been debating with my sister about rhetoric, which she hates, but I think is really important. Ethos, Pathos, and Logos can make or break any important letter or speech. While she may still be in high school, I think that taking AP Language and Composition was the best decision of my life, because I don't have to take College Writing. All of my friends here are taking it and they all want to rip their hair out.

You dig?

So, I've gotten better. This is 2 days in a row, bringing this to post 3 for the year of 2012. I don't know if you guys are aware, but the world is supposed to end this year. Have any of you heard that? It's supposed to be like this new craze, but they've already said that the world is gonna end 3 times, and that's just in my lifetime. There's a poem by Robert Frost, that's quite aptly named "Fire and Ice". I dig the poem, so I'm gonna post it here so that you can all read it.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Personally, I think that if the world ends in fire, then everyone who dies, it isn't going to be nearly as bad as if it ended in ice. I would rather die sweating than freezing my ass off. You're probably all thinking that I'm pessimistic for even thinking this way, but I might as well jump on the bandwagon. I don't even think the world is going to end.

Now, onto other depressing notes-Whitney Houston died yesterday. One of the greatest pop icons in the 1980's and 90's, she passed away at age 48. While no one knows the cause of death, that doesn't mean that people aren't guessing as to what this magnificent woman died from.

I've decided

I'm going to write a book. My insomnia seems to have gotten worse this semester, and it seems that I've become nocturnal. I figure, if no on else stays up all night, I might as well do something productive. I think I'll make it fantasy related, just for kicks, but I want a badass main character, and a killer story line to go with it. I'm thinking that I'll make it about a warrior princess who watches the murder of her father when she's young, and she falls in love with her best friend. It can't possibly be a worse love story than "Twilight". Besides, I kind of want to draw from Paolini (Eragon) and Tolkien (Lord of the Rings), maybe through some George R.R. Martin (A Song of Fire and Ice) in while I'm at it. I might even pull from Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth books).

Happy 2012 guys!

So I know that this is really bad, because I haven't posted in a few months, but today, after I finished watching Finding Nemo, I decided to spend some time on stumbleupon. One of my interests, being literature, came up with "top 10 banned books in the united states"(www.shortlist.com/shortlists/10-banned-books/ ). Of course this piqued my interest and made me want to see the rest of the list. Apparently, Shel Silverstein's poems, Judy Bloom's books, Where's Waldo, Harry Potter, Captain Underpants, Bridge to Terabithia, Junie B. Jones, and others are considered banned books by the American Library Association. Parents wonder why it is that the children of today spend so much time on electronics? It's because schools are no longer allowed to give children the same books that we had. To be perfectly honest with you about my childhood, I spent tons of time out on my porch, or sitting on my couch reading books. Judy Bloom's "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.", which was recommended to me by my mother, helped me realize that while getting your period can be great at first, it's always good to have your friends around with you. I mean, there are some books that are on the list that are totally understandable, if it were from school libraries. Most of the books that I read in elementary, middle, and high school are on that list, especially if you actually look at this list from 2000-2009 ( http://www.ala.org/advocacy/banned/frequentlychallenged/challengedbydecade/2000_2009 ), and it's almost pathetic that some of these books have been banned.
The American Library Association (which I'll be dubbing the ALA) has reign over what books can be kept in school libraries, public libraries, college libraries, and even prisons. One of the books on the list that really makes me upset is "The Chocolate War". I read that my freshman year with a great teacher, and I loved it. I was surprised that it was banned because from what I remember of the book was about a kid who stood up for what he believed and he didn't want to have to deal with school politics. The reason that the book was banned is because the main character walks in on another student masturbating in the bathrooms at school, and because there's violence. Regardless of what school you attend, there is going to be violence and talk of sex-the narrator is a teenage boy.
As you all know (hopefully) is that I'm a huge nerd. What really bothers me about the burning, banning, and challenging of book is that most people see one thing of having too large of a place in the novel. For one example, "The Lord of the Rings" was burned in New Mexico for being satanic. The thing that doesn't make any sense to me is that the whole series is a double allegory for both the bible and the Great War (I'm counting WWI and WWII as one war, because it's an era). Tolkien wrote the entire series while in a mental hospital suffering from PTSD after serving in WWII. He and C.S. Lewis spent time in the mental ward together, having served together. Their books were even published within a year of each other, LOTR being published in 1955, and The Chronicles of Narnia in 1956. Both sets of books have parallels with the coming of Christ, with the rising of both Aslan and Gandalf (spoilers).
I'm sitting here at my desk, thinking that there has to be something wrong with this picture. People say that the youth of today have no imagination, or that it's limited, yet they make it so that teachers aren't allowed to read Silverstein to their students. Okay, I'll remember that when I read my child "The Giving Tree" or anything by Roald Dahl, or "The Lorax" by Dr. Suess,or "Harriet the Spy" by Louise Fitz-Hugh" I'll make sure to tell that these books are banned, what I want to know is why can teachers show movies based on these books. When my kids can't read "Alice in Wonderland", "Matlida", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "When I Ran the Zoo", "The Lion, The Witch, and The Warlock", "The Complete Tales of the Brothers Grimm", or any of those books, yet they'll be allowed to watch the movies on ABCFamily, or maybe even in class.
While some books are totally understandable to me, like "Uncle Tom's Cabin" or "Animal Farm", or even "The Kite Runner", other books astound me. I won't continue to rant about this, but it drives me crazy that censorship is alive and well within the system that promotes literacy and awareness of the development of modern day writing.
